Ladies--I need a little help here from those that have been through the new baby thing. We are in the process of registering for that wonderful day when people bring you gifts for your baby-to-be: our baby shower! I am a little overwhelmed by all the stuff! Those that have done this before -- what were the things that you liked the most and couldn't live without when you had your little one? Also - was there anything that was just horrible and you wouldn't recommend to your worst enemy?? :) Any of this great mommy insight would be helpful!!! Ahh!! :)
Oh - and because I didn't do this before...this is the last ultrasound we had - about 6 weeks ago at 20 weeks! We're not finding out if it's a boy or girl, so only waist-up shots!!!

Ha-ha- my favorite part- registering!! Here's my lists...
Must-Haves:
- video monitor
- long-sleeved footie pajamas (of all the adorable outfits Phoebe had, these are what she wore for the majority of the time in the winter months)
- variety of pacifiers
- Mylicon (infant gas drops- expensive, but lifesaving)
- high quality nasal aspirator (shudder...)
- flannel receiving blankets
- nursing cover, like Hooter Hiders or Bebe au Lait (expensive, but worth it when relatives come a callin')
- Boppy pillow (for nursing, and for propping up baby later on)
- infant tub that has a reclining back part and some sort of butt rest so baby doesn't slide around too much
Things You May Not Want
- tops/ pajamas with zippers but no zipper covers (baby's chin gets stabbed repeatedly, you feel bad, etc.)
- outfits with ruffle necks or collars (especially if baby has a large neck, like some babies...)
- collapsible infant tub (don't even ask)
- stuffed animals (unless you have some clever storage solution I don't- they're so cute you can't part with them, but what do you do with 57 teddy bears?)
First off, let me start by saying that everyone has their own opinion on what works best for them and what doesn't, but here's my 2 cents.
Wipes warmer- Aubree pee's instantly if she's touched by a cold wipe.
Gripe Water- mylicon drops didn't work for her, but the Gripe water has been a live saver.
Breast feeding?? First Years Learning Curve bottle warmer. I usually put the small amount of water in it and the bottle...go change her and put her bib on. By then...it's the perfect temperature. I will warn you though, you'll have to play around with the amount of water to put in to get the perfect temp. Don't go by what is suggested.
I know a lot of outfits come with hats and bibs, but don't buy a lot of the hats. Unless you have a tiny baby who is still having trouble keeping his/her body temp. Most of the time they never fit right anyway.
Don't register for a lot of one kind bottle. We registered for the NUK bottles...(my favorite)...but Aubree can't get her milk out of them. She has to use a latex nipple because it's softer than the silicone nipples, making it easier to get milk out of them. So, luckily, my brother and his wife tried so many with their twins, that we tried a variety of them with her to find out what worked before buying any more.
Baby powder scented baggies to put poopy diapers in rather than a diaper pail. The diaper pails REEK after being used for a couple months. The scented baggies cover the smell much better.
Sorry so long!!
